Break the language barrier - learn Spanish

Muy buenas!!!

How did you get on with the questions in lesson 2? Here they are again with the answers:

1. Can you help?- ¿Puedes ayudar?- (poo-eh-des aye-oo-dar)
2. Can you ski?- ¿Sabes esquiar?- (sa-bes es-kee-ar)
3. Can you change this?-¿Puedes cambiar esto?-(poo-eh-des cam-bee-ar-es-to)
4. Can you speak Spanish?- ¿Sabes hablar español?- (sa-bes ab-lar-es-pan-yol)
5. Can you come with me?- ¿Puedes acompañarme?- (poo-eh-des ah-kom-pan-yar-me)

Give yourself an extra point if you got them all right!!!

This time I thought we could go to the supermarket, “el supermercado” (soo-per-mer-kah-do), and look at some vocabulary and phrases that might come in handy.

La fruta- (froo-ta) fruit
1. La manzana-(man-than-ah)- apple
2. La naranja- (na-ran-ka)-orange
3. El platano-(pla-tah-no) banana
4. El limón-(lee-mon)-lemon
5. El pomelo-(poh-meh-lo)-grapefruit

1. La zanahria-(thah-na-or-ee-ah)-carrot
2. La coliflor- (coh-lee-flor)-cauliflower
3. El champiñon- (cham-peen-yon)-mushroom
4. El pepino- (peh-pee-no)-cucumber
5. La cebolla- (theh-boy-ya)-onion

1. La ternera-(ter-ner-ah)- veal
2. La carne de vaca- (car-neh de ba-ka)-beef
3. El pollo- (po-yo)-chicken
4. El cerdo- (ther-doh)-pork
5. El cordero- (cor-der-oh)-lamb

1. La leche-(leh-che)- milk
2. Los huevos-(oo-eh-bos)-eggs
3. La cesta- (thes-ta)-basket
4. La botella- (boh-teh-ya)-bottle
5. El dinero-(dee-ner-oh)- money

Don´t worry about saying too many pleases or thank yous as the Spanish do not keep saying these words over and over again. One “por favor” (please) at the beginning followed by one “gracias” (thank you) at the end is fine.

Helpful phrases/words for shopping

¿Cuánto es?- How much is it?
¿Cuánto cuesta?- How much does it cost?
¿Cuánto cuestan?- How much do they cost?
¿Hay?- Is there any, are there any
Quiero- I want
Póngame- Can I have
¿Dónde está?- Where is?
¿Dónde están?- Where are?

Try translating this simple phrases:

1. Quiero medio kilo de patatas y dos manzanas.
2. ¿Hay carne picada?
3. ¿Cuánto cuesta una botella de leche?
4. ¿Cuánto cuestan un kilo de tomates, un pepino, y medio kilo de champiñones?
5. Póngame tres bolsas por favor.
6. ¿Dónde están las cestas?
