Coming to Stay

They’ve chosen the dates and booked the flights,
They’re coming to stay for fourteen nights!
They’re coming to escape the UK chills:
Time to develop some brand new skills!

You’ve never had guests for a fortnight before,
It’s hard to imagine what lies in store!
The airport run isn’t really that far
So you provide the personal hire car!

It’s good when people invest their time
And come to join you in Andalucian clime!
Spare bedroom and wardrobe completely clear
And the freezer is full of wine and beer!

There are plans for sunbathing, time to laze,
And busy beach and market days!
Days around the pool with a barbecue,
Nights out in restaurants overlooking a view!

It’s pretty hard work being the perfect host,
With a breakfast menu full of cereals and toast!
Preparing a broad selection of places to go
And activities which help to make everything flow!

Will we still get a lie-in, our morning treat?
Thank goodness we have our very own en-suite!
When will we get chance to mop all the floors
And do all those hundreds of everyday chores?

It’s hard when negotiating a balance sheet:
Should we ask for half the supermarket receipt?
But if your visitors are true and honest friends
It should all work out fairly in the end!

And then there’s the health and safety rules,
Especially the ones associated with pools!
No chlorine anywhere near the leather suite,
And no walking inside with wet-through feet!

You get through the fortnight without disaster:
No hospital visits with arms in plaster!
A wonderful fortnight and the time’s just flown
But at last you can relax and be home alone!
